Travel Destinations to Watch This Month
Gangneung — Ranked 5th nationwide · Interest 20,530
The Gangneung Dano Festival, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will be held this year for eight days from June 15 to 22 throughout Gangneung City under the theme "It is Unfolding, It is Dano." 71 programs across 13 categories will be offered, including the brewing of sacred liquor, the Daegwallyeong Mountain God Ritual, the Yeongsin Procession, Dano Gut, and the Gwanno Mask Dance, accompanied by the nation's largest open-air market. Admission is free.
Even outside of the Dano Festival period, June in Gangneung is a time when the East Sea opens up peacefully in early summer. Gyeongpo Beach and Jumunjin Beach can be enjoyed leisurely before the peak season, and it is also a good time to plan a 2-day, 1-night itinerary by combining them with downtown attractions such as Anmok Coffee Street, Ojukheon, and Seonkyo-jang.
chief mourner — Ranked 7th nationwide · Interest 18,410
June is the golden time for a trip to see Jeju hydrangeas. Hydrangea festivals are in full swing at Huairi Nature Park and Camellia Hill, and the hydrangea clusters at Hallim Park also reach their peak from mid to late June. The Jongdal-ri Hydrangea Road and Anseong-ri Hydrangea Road are also highly regarded as driving courses, with blue and purple hydrangeas stretching along the entire roadside.
The nighttime illuminated garden and media art content also operate in conjunction with the hydrangea season in June, offering plenty to see both day and night. As it is before the peak season in July and August, accommodation prices are relatively lower and crowds are less, making it one of the best times to travel to Jeju.
Namhae — Ranked 14th nationwide · Interest 13,210
Namhae German Village creates an exotic landscape in mid-June, the peak season for hydrangea blooms, where European-style buildings harmonize with purple and white flowers. As one of the few attractions in Korea where you can take photos of hydrangeas against a backdrop of the blue sea, it is a travel destination whose popularity skyrockets every June via social media. It is also recommended to visit the nearby Horticultural Art Village and Mulgeon Coastal Forest.
The anchovy season in Namhae begins in earnest in June. You can enjoy freshly caught anchovy ssam밥 (rice wrapped in lettuce) and seasoned anchovy sashimi around Mijo Port, and Sangju Eunmorae Beach and Sachon Beach are also perfect for enjoying the tranquil early summer sea.

June Year-End Analysis
We examined travel destinations where search volumes rose and fell significantly during the month of June. While the East Coast as a whole saw an increase due to the opening of the early summer sea season and the Gangneung Dano Festival, interest in inland and traditional tourist destinations cooled rapidly as spring flowers and festivals came to an end.
Geoje — +2,150 (+49.8%, Rank ▲13)
In June, interest in Geoje surged by nearly half compared to the previous month. Early summer in June marks the beginning of the peak season for Geoje Haegeumgang and Oedo Botania, and a pattern repeats every year where cruise reservations flock to the island, leading to a simultaneous rise in related searches. This year, the increase was even greater, coinciding with the trend of Geoje being re-evaluated as a day-trip destination for the Busan and Gyeongnam regions following the opening of the Geoga Bridge.
During this period, attention focuses on Geoje as Hakdong Mongdol Beach and Gujora Beach begin preparations for opening. Seasonal seafood for early summer, such as sea squirts and sea urchins, is also cited as a reason to travel to Geoje.
Taebaek — +860 (+43.9%, Rank ▲22)
Taebaek jumped a whopping 22 spots in the rankings in June. This is largely due to the fact that, given the high-altitude characteristics of Gangwon Province, the average temperature remains between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius even in June, attracting early attention as a summer retreat to escape the heat. The summer trekking season opens at Taebaeksan National Park, and Gumunso Geopark and Geomnyongso also see an increase in visitors in early summer.
Taebaek Plateau Natural Recreation Forest and Maebongsan Wind Hill are famous attractions where the waves of greenery reach their peak in June, and search volumes tend to skyrocket on social media every year after June.
chief mourner — +4,150 (+22.5%, Rank ▲3)
Jeju ranked first in absolute growth. Coinciding with the peak hydrangea season in June, there was a massive influx of searches related to famous hydrangea spots such as Huairi, Camellia Hill, and Hallim Park. This year, the phenomenon of demand concentrating from late June onwards for those looking to visit Jeju before the peak season in July and August was observed just as it was previously.
Seogwipo also saw a simultaneous rise in interest level to +60 (+5.71 TP3T, ranking ▲9). The simultaneous rise of Jeju and Seogwipo is attributed to the fact that famous hydrangea spots are distributed throughout the island.
Hapcheon — −1,340 (−50.4%, Rank ▼17)
Hapcheon recorded the highest rate of decline, with interest dropping by more than half during the month of June. Hapcheon is a place where large-scale search demand flocks in the spring (April–May) due to the Hwangmaesan Azalea Festival. Every year, a pattern repeats where search volume quickly returns to its original level in June as the azaleas fade and the festival concludes. The drop in interest from 2,660 at the beginning of the month to 1,320 at the end of June is a typical example of this seasonal fluctuation.
The lack of unique four-season content specific to Hapcheon, aside from Mt. Hwangmae and Haeinsa Temple, also appears to be a factor accelerating the decline during the off-season.
Mungyeong — −1,320 (−30.3%, Rank ▼16)
Mungyeong follows a similar pattern to Hapcheon. Interest has dropped significantly as the spring cherry blossom trekking at Mungyeongsaejae and the mountain trekking season in April and May have ended. Since the Omija harvest in Mungyeong takes place in September and October, and experiential activities such as the Mungyeong Coal Museum and rail bikes are concentrated in the spring and autumn, June is traditionally an off-season.
Interest dropped from 4,360 at the beginning of the month to 3,040, falling from 35th to 51st place. This is also a common June phenomenon for inland tourist destinations where the purpose of summer visits is not clear.
Namwon — −2,410 (−32.3%, Rank ▼8)
Namwon ranked among the top in terms of absolute decline during this period, dropping eight spots in the rankings. This is a natural adjustment that occurred as the demand for spring tourism at Gwanghanru Garden was exhausted following the end of the Chunhyang Festival (held in May), Namwon's largest event. Namwon's characteristic seasonal fluctuations, which surge around the Chunhyang Festival and cool down rapidly in June, were repeated this year as well.
As demand for mountain trekking at places like Seongsamjae and Baraebong in Mt. Jirisan peaks in May, the motivation to visit weakens in June. Developing off-season content such as the Yocheon Riverside Park and the Honbul Literature Museum remains a challenge.
