Travel Destinations to Watch This Month
daegu — Chicken and Beer Festival Opens, Daegu's Summer Begins
Taking advantage of its selection as a preliminary global festival for 2026 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event has adopted the slogan 'Chimaek 26,' and programs combining water activities, EDM performances, and chicken and beer will take place across four zones. On the opening day, FT Island will take the stage, followed by N.Flying, 10CM, Wonstein and Hangzoo, and Car the Garden and Park Myung-soo performing in succession.
At the K-Chimaek Street along Duryu Park Road, visitors can enjoy photo zones and hands-on programs, and since admission is free, they can drop by without any burden. On the 11th and 12th of the same month, the Ansim Creative Valley Lotus Village Festival will be held in Dong-gu, Daegu, followed by the Dong-gu Summer Festival centered on water activities along the Geumho River on the 25th and 26th, making Daegu a festival city throughout July.
Boryeong — The season of silver mud at Daecheon Beach, the Mud Festival returns.
The 29th Boryeong Mud Festival will be held for 17 days. Having established itself as the summer festival most visited by foreigners, the mud experience zone and water park zone have been significantly expanded this year, and attractions continue day and night, ranging from the opening K-POP performance and closing K-Trot concert to a drone light show and an Air Force Black Eagles air show.
Daecheon Beach opens ahead of the festival, signaling the start of the peak summer vacation season on the West Coast. In addition to the experience of rolling around in the mud, if you add the mysterious sea path at nearby Muchangpo Beach or Boryeong's local specialties, such as blue crabs and large shrimp, it makes for a perfect summer vacation itinerary.
Geoje — Ranked #1 in Soaring Interest, Rises Again as a Summer Marine Festival
This is the region with the largest increase in this month's rankings, jumping 49.81 TP3T compared to June 1st. The 'Geoje Yaho' meme has spread widely on short-form platforms since May, and the buzz is continuing into the summer as all members of Risenne were appointed as promotional ambassadors for Geoje City on May 22nd. On top of this, the Geoje Summer Marine Festival, held from July 25th to 26th at Jisepo Port Waterfront Park, is adding momentum to the upward trend.
Marine sports competitions, various experience programs, and the Blue Summer Concert take place over two days, and even outside of the festival period, the area is bustling throughout July and August due to Geoje's unique coastal scenery, such as Wind Hill, Oedo Botania, and Hakdong Heukjinju Mongdol Beach. It is ideal to plan a trip that combines it with Tongyeong and Namhae to form a Southern Coast Belt.
grant — The three days at the peak when the lotus flowers at Gungnamji are in full bloom
The 24th Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival is taking place. Timed to coincide precisely with the full bloom of pink and white lotuses at Gungnamji, Korea's first artificial pond, the festival features landscape creation, performances, competitions, and hands-on programs.
Since lotus flowers bloom most fully in the morning, it is best to visit between 7 and 10 a.m. If you also tour Baekje historical sites such as the Baekje Cultural Complex and Jeongnimsa Temple Site, you can complete a fulfilling trip to Buyeo even with a short itinerary.
Jangheung — Tamjin River Water Fight Festival Emerges as a Summer Vacation Spot in the South
The 19th Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival will be held for nine days. The festival centers on physically engaging programs, such as the Battle of Salsu Street Parade, the world's largest water fight, the Golden Fish Catching event where participants catch giant eels in the Tamjin River, and underwater tug-of-war. This year, the scale has been further expanded with the addition of 'MyK Festa,' which combines K-POP concerts and K-drama experiences.
After cooling off with water activities, I recommend a course where you can enjoy a forest bath at Jeongnamjin Cypress Forest Woodland or finish with Jangheung Samhap (Korean beef, razor clams, and shiitake mushrooms). Since it is not yet widely known nationwide, you can enjoy it relatively leisurely compared to other summer vacation spots.
