[Jeonnam / Goheung] Pungyang Brewery – A Visit to the Goheung Citron Makgeolli Brewery

Goheung is a region famous for yuzu, to the extent that half of the nation's total yuzu production comes from here.
In particular, Goheung Yuja Park is located in Pungyang-myeon, and
It is a town famous for yuzu, enough to hold the Pungyang Yuzu Festival every autumn.

Pungyang Brewery, located in Pungyang-myeon, was a local brewery famous for liquor made from such yuzu.

This is a place where you can purchase Goheung citron wine directly from the source.

This is what it looked like when I first discovered it on the other side of the bridge.
Two large trees are blocking half of the building, and,
The word 'Hyangju' was faintly visible on the wall.

If you get close, you will see 'Pungyang Brewery' in blue letters,
'Yujahyangju Cheongjeong Nonghyup Corporation' is written in red letters.

Red poppies are blooming at the entrance to the road leading to the brewery.
There are streams on both sides, and the scenery with grass and streams blends well with the brewery.

The interior was a modest office space and sales outlet.
Products were displayed on the desk.
There were no separate programs for visitors, such as tastings or brewery tours.

There are a total of three types of products confirmed on this day.
Goheung Pungyang Yuja Makgeolli (6%, 750ml), Yuja Hyangju (6%, 750ml),
I love Yuja (Yakju 17%, 500ml).

I tasted three types of alcohol at the accommodation.
Goheung Pungyang Yuja Makgeolli is just regular sweetened makgeolli with a slight yuja flavor added.
The Yuja-hyangju was quite clear for a makgeolli, and a stronger scent of yuzu and medicinal herbs emerged.
It feels like the name 'Yuja Hyangju' really suits it better than 'Yuja Makgeolli'.

I love Yuja, a medicinal liquor rarely seen in supermarkets, has an alcohol content of 171 TP3T.
Although the alcohol content was high, putting that aside, the smell of alcohol was quite strong.
Although I could sense the yuzu scent quite strongly, the booz was so intense that it was difficult to perceive it as harmonious.
It costs around 20,000 won, but honestly, the combination of price and taste wasn't to my liking.

The difference becomes clearer when looking at the back label.
The yuzu content of Goheung Pungyang Yuja Makgeolli is 0.011 TP 3 T,
Yuja-flavored liquor contains additional herbal ingredients such as reishi mushroom, licorice, cinnamon, and angelica root in addition to 0.03%.
Both products contain aspartame sweeteners Makgeolli You can think of it as the bass.

Goheung Pungyang Yuja Makgeolli and Yuja Hyangju are products that can be commonly found in supermarkets in downtown Goheung.
You can buy it about 500 to 1,000 won cheaper if you order directly from the brewery, but,
If you are a traveler on foot, you might want to consider whether it is really necessary to stop by here.
The lack of content was quite disappointing.

Since most of the products can be purchased at a supermarket, the visit itself does not offer much merit.
However, if you are planning to visit the nearby Yuja Park, it doesn't seem like a bad idea to stop by briefly while you're there.
