[Gyeongbuk/Gyeongju] Sugyeongsa – A Gyeongju Hanok Korean restaurant with impressive whole perilla seed noodles

A meal in Gyeongju, a Hanok restaurant Sugyeongsa.
I avoided meal times because I was worried it would be crowded.
I found it around 3:30 PM.

The shop isn't big, so the tables fill up quickly.
Even though it was well past lunchtime, it was full, so I waited for about 10 minutes.

The title of the signboard is “Gourmet Capturing Gyeongju”.
No Break, last order is at 9 PM.
They say there is also a separate vegan menu.

Mist rises between the stones of the pond at the entrance.
The landscaping is really pretty.

There are three types of 2-person set meals.
Four people, whole sesame seed ramen, full meal set and
We ordered two bowls of Yukhoe Mulhoe.
Fried cheese is served as a standard side dish.

The menu photo on the wall is pretty.

The first thing that came out was the Daereungwon fried cheese.
The whole mozzarella was fried into a mound shape.

Daereungwon is located in the middle of downtown Gyeongju.
It is a Silla tomb complex.
Cheonmachong and Hwangnamdaechong are located here.

When you cut into it, the cheese stretches out.
It tastes familiar, but it’s really good.
The sauce is mayonnaise-based.
Aioli with added yuzu flavor.

The centerpiece of the set is Gyeongju beef bulgogi and lotus leaf rice.
Wrap vegetables and ssamjang are served together.

The bulgogi was cooked very well.
I like it because it is not excessively sweet or soggy.

Sugyeongsa's signature, crispy fried lotus root and whole sesame noodles.
This was the best menu of the day.

It has a nuance that reminds me of Japchae.
It is not Japchae either.
It is incredibly nutty and fragrant.

The wasabi served on the side is for dipping the noodles.

When roasted, perilla seeds release a strong nutty aroma, but
It is an ingredient that spoils quickly due to its high oil content.
To preserve the scent while using the whole thing
I pay a lot of attention to preparation and storage.
The savory flavor is evenly infused throughout the entire noodle.

The lotus leaf rice is also well-cooked and delicious.

The lotus leaves transfer a subtle aroma to the rice while steaming, and
It locks in moisture to prevent the rice from drying out.

Yukhoe Mulhoe is a representative dish of Gyeongju.
I ordered it because it's a highly-rated dish.

I don't like the chili sauce, so the difference between the mulhoe is
I don't really feel it...
Still, taking a bite of the sweet and sour flavor
It’s not bad for ventilating the mouth.
I like the generous amount of water celery.

The menu is unique, and the food is neat and delicious.
To those visiting Gyeongju
It is a restaurant I definitely want to recommend.
If you go to Gyeongju, be sure to try the whole sesame noodles.
